Met dit project zet Marjolijn Boterenbrood initiatieven uit Nieuw West op de wereldkaart.
Dit project is ontstaan uit Nieuw West Express een web-gemeenschap met een google-kaart die zichzelf vult met de enorme hoeveelheid culturele activiteiten in Nieuw West. Het idee voor NWE komt van Diana Krabbendam en Marjolijn Boterenbrood. Het platform van NWE laat de groeiende levendigheid in Nieuw West zien. NWE brengt deze ontwikkeling in kaart, zodat er nieuwe verbindingen ontstaan en daarmee de lokale gemeenschap wordt versterkt.  Boterenbrood laat Nieuw West zien als een sterrenstelsel. Zij ziet de initiatieven in dit gebied als de sterren; pulsars, rode dwergen en supernova’s. De volgende stap is het zoeken naar geboortegronden, kijken hoe het zich clustert, naar de straling en de donkere plekken ertussen en naar de onderlinge aantrekkingskracht. Door dit te benoemen en actie te ondernemen ontstaan nieuwe verbindingen; nieuwe ‘sterrenbeelden’, mèt de kennis van bewoners en ondernemers.
Om kennis en activiteiten van mensen te weten te komen, kwam de tekenmachine in actie tijdens Art at the Pool in de zomer van 2010. Een lege rol papier over een lege kaart met herkenningspunten voor nieuwe mental maps. http://www.nieuwwestexpress.nl

New-West Express

With this project Marjolijn Boterenbrood is placing initiatives from the New-West district of Amsterdam on the world map.
This project was brought about through New-West Express, a web-community with a Google map that fills itself in with the enormous quantity of cultural activities in New-West. The idea for NWE comes from Diana Krabbendam and Marjolijn Boterenbrood. The NWE platform reveals the increasing vitality in New-West. NWE is investigating this development in order to stimulate new connections, thus strengthening the local community. Boterenbrood depicts New-West as a galaxy. She sees the initiatives in this area as stars: pulsars, red dwarves and supernovas. The next step is to look for native countries, seeing how clusters form, looking at the radiation and the darker spaces in between and at the gravitational forces. By naming these and taking action new connections arise: new ‘constellations’, incorporating the knowledge of inhabitants and entrepreneurs.
 In order to explore people’s knowledge and activities, use was made of the drawing machine during the Art at the Pool in the summer of 2010: a roll of blank tracing paper placed over a blank map showing only the key identification points forming the basis of new mental maps. http://www.nieuwwestexpress.nl
